17 Percent Petition

Whereas, we have a moral obligation to eliminate the national debt so that our children are not left to pay interest on our debt;

Whereas, our country has never been able to sustain government revenues in excess of 18% of GDP;

Whereas, it will require 40 years to eliminate the national debt if we devote 1% of GDP to paying down the debt;

Whereas, it will require 20 years to eliminate the national debt if we devote 3% of GDP to paying down the debt;

I hereby call upon the U.S. Congress to limit federal spending to 17% of GDP until we either:

• Have historical proof that we can sustain government revenues above 20% of GDP, or
• Have eliminated the national debt
